Because your relaxation begins before you arrive.
When you walk into RYE – Restore Your Essence, my goal is for you to feel welcomed, comfortable, and ready to leave the outside world behind. But what you may not realize is that your massage experience begins well before you step through the door.
Every massage requires thoughtful preparation, from warming the towels and heating the stones to reviewing your intake forms and preparing the treatment room. These small details are intentional, and each one plays a role in creating a comfortable, personalized experience.
Today, I’m taking you behind the scenes to show you how I prepare for your massage session.
1. Reviewing Your Intake Forms: Getting to Know Your Needs
Before your appointment, one of the most important things I do is review your intake form.
Your intake form is more than just paperwork. It helps me understand your health history, areas of discomfort, massage preferences, and any precautions I may need to consider during your session.
For example, are you experiencing tension in your shoulders? Have you recently had an injury? Do you prefer lighter pressure, or are you looking for more focused therapeutic work?
Taking the time to review this information allows me to begin developing a treatment approach before you arrive.
Of course, we still discuss how you’re feeling on the day of your appointment because your body’s needs can change from one session to the next.
At RYE, your massage is never a one-size-fits-all experience.
2. Heating the Stones: Preparing for Comfort
One of my favorite parts of preparing the treatment room is getting the stones ready.
Whether your session includes traditional hot stones or Himalayan salt stones, proper preparation is essential.
I carefully warm the stones using the appropriate equipment and monitor their temperature to ensure they’re suitable for use. Warm stones can provide a comforting sensation and complement massage techniques designed to encourage relaxation and ease muscle tension.
Not every session calls for heated stones, but when they’re included, I want them to be ready when it’s time to incorporate them into your massage.
It’s one more way I prepare for a seamless experience.
3. Warming the Towels: The Little Luxuries Matter
There’s something incredibly comforting about a warm towel during a massage.
Before your session, I prepare fresh towels and warm them so they’re ready for use when appropriate.
Warm towels can be especially enjoyable when removing massage products or finishing a particular area of the body.
It’s a simple addition, but I believe the little luxuries are what help transform a routine massage into a restorative experience.
After all, relaxation isn’t just about the massage techniques. It’s also about how you’re cared for throughout your visit.
4. Preparing the Treatment Room: Creating a Peaceful Environment
The atmosphere of the treatment room is just as important as the massage itself.
Before each appointment, I take time to clean and disinfect appropriate surfaces and equipment, replace linens, organize my supplies, and prepare the massage table.
I also consider the room’s temperature, lighting, and overall ambiance.
I want the space to feel calm and inviting from the moment you enter.
And while traditional spa music is a popular choice, I understand that everyone relaxes differently. Whether you prefer peaceful music, a guided meditation, a podcast, or simply a quiet room, I want your experience to reflect what helps you feel most comfortable.
5. Preparing My Tools and Products
Depending on the massage you’ve booked and your individual needs, I may prepare additional tools or products before your arrival.
This might include massage oils, aromatherapy options, cupping tools, percussion therapy equipment, or other enhancements.
I also make sure the products and equipment I plan to use are clean, organized, and ready for your session.
Having everything prepared allows me to focus on you instead of interrupting your massage to gather supplies.
Of course, any enhancements are discussed with you beforehand to make sure they align with your preferences and comfort level.
6. Preparing Myself: Being Present for Your Session
One part of massage preparation that often goes unnoticed is how I prepare myself.
Massage therapy requires physical effort, concentration, and attentiveness.
Before your appointment, I take a moment to reset, wash my hands, and make sure I’m physically and mentally ready to provide your session.
I don’t want you to feel like you’re simply another appointment on my calendar.
Whether you’re visiting for stress relief, muscle tension, recovery, or a little much-needed self-care, you deserve my full attention during the time we’ve set aside for you.
Your Massage Begins Before You Arrive
At RYE – Restore Your Essence, I believe a great massage experience is built on more than technique alone.
It’s the thoughtful preparation, the attention to detail, the personalized approach, and the intention behind every step.
From reviewing your intake form to warming your towels and preparing the treatment room, each detail serves a purpose: helping you feel comfortable, cared for, and able to fully enjoy your massage.
So the next time you arrive for your appointment, know that your experience didn’t begin when you walked through the door.
It began when I started preparing for you.
